Does anyone else find this whole situation ridiculous?
“The incoming president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) has told attendees of its conference they are freedom fighters in a “culture war”. Texas Governor Rick Perry also took to the podium, thanking Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz for “fighting back against the anti-gun lobby in their latest attempt to undercut the [US Constitution’s] second amendment”, a reference to the failed firearms control bill.”
Firstly I think we need to look at the Bill Of Rights. And also pay attention to the preamble.
“THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.
RESOLVED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following Articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States, all, or any of which Articles, when ratified by three fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of the said Constitution; viz”
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
So the fact that this, in and of itself, is an amendment does that make it not as strong as something that was put there initially? Doesn’t the preamble say that things can be changed to ensure the benefit of all? (Seriously, I’m asking) And wasn’t the firearms control bill, just something to strengthen background checks(can’t find what I was looking for online for what all it was supposed to do)? Wouldn’t that have been a good thing? Make it a little harder for the nuts out there to acquire them? If they were actually trying to take them away then I think it would be time to be up in arms (see what I did there? 😉 ).
Since guns are already out there it would be next to impossible to get them back. People will find access if they want it bad enough. Best scenario would have been that they weren’t created. But they have been and have been upgraded countless times. So we gotta be smart with it. Some people say that genocide coincidentally follow governments disarming the public.
While others argue against it.
Which makes me really wish I had a history textbook with me right now. But who knows how much good that would actually do me.
But it DOES sound like Australia can make gun CONTROL (not ban) work…
Ahh, the joy of the internet. Where you can find anything to back up want you want and anything is a fact. Are encyclopedias still trustworthy these days?
